Summer is hotting up

Its that time of year again the flowers are starting to come out the birds are singing and yes its still raining, but us Brits still go crazy at the first sight of a bit of sunshine, we all know the drill, race to the nearest supermarket and stock up on burgers, out comes the BBQ and patio furniture and summer is officially here.

Well this year is no different so far as we are in the wettest drought in fourty odd years, i know how can a country that has so much rain have a draught ? but still this does not dampen our British spirit, we fight through the cold and rain just so we can live outdoors a just a few short days a year, BBq sales shoot through the roof, Picnic hamper sales sky rocket and at the first sniff at Wimbledon everyone races out to buy some strawberrys, love it or hate it we will never change our longiness to bbq outside, we spend all winter dreaming of long summer days sat outside on our new patio sets drinking pims, and late summer nights just as the chill sets in we switch on our patio heaters and watch the sun set.

Well with a full summer of British action this summer a new online shop of garden furniture and bbq has been amazed at growing orders as the queens jubilee aproaches garden furniture sales have risen by 20% and patio heater sales are up mre than 25% which is great news for the British economy, so come on guys with the jubilee, euro 2012, and the Olympics get out in your garden and crank up the barbecue

Furnishing a holiday home

One of the riskiest things about booking a holiday rental property is you never know whether you can quite trust the photos you see on the website or in the catalogue when you book a holiday. Sometimes there can be a major feeling of disappointment when you walk into a place where the furniture is mismatched and looks like it might not survive the one or two weeks you’ve booked to stay there. Worst of all is a stained mattress or mysterious marks on the walls and carpet.

So, if you’re a holiday home owner, take note! People want clean, fresh-smelling, simply decorated places to stay. They don’t have to be fancy, but they have to be warm and welcoming, and not the kind of places where you don’t feel safe walking around barefoot or lying in the beds at night!

A good tip is not to think that your holiday home would be a suitable place for your furniture that you’ve had enough of. If you’re sick of it, why would anyone else want to be surrounded by it? And furniture is generally so cheap these days, there’s no excuse. You could probably furnish the house with the profits from a couple of weeks’ rental income.

If your budget feels a bit stretched, then prioritise. You don’t need to go overboard. People won’t expect recliner sofas, but they will expect a clean and wholesome looking sofa that doesn’t fall apart every time they sit on it. A cheap dining table and chairs is fine as long as they are robust and solid – you don’t want anything that will break easily.

Once you’ve got the furniture sorted, make it homely by adding a few framed prints of local scenes on the walls, and a couple of colourful rugs to add some warmth.

Make sure that you would be pleased to stay in your holiday home yourself, and you’re sure to have happy customers.

Ergonomic Education

It may net be the most attractive furniture in the world, but when it’s in competition with current class room pieces, it’s not hard to beat.

Irish designer Simon Dennehy has come up with an excellent concept for primary school children, who takes care of their correct posture, chair height. To have a healthy back, posture is very important and would reduce problems like poor digestion, nausea, headaches and bad circulation, which arises because of incorrect posture.

This could be a huge step forward in children’s education and may see an improvement in the standards of UK schooling. We will look forward to seeing it Dennehy’s designs make it into our school.

Time for “rubbish” furniture?

With people looking to save money in this tough economic climate and the constant encouragement from authorities to recycle our rubbish, maybe there is way of killing two birds with one stone so to speak.

beer bottle chandelier

Making furniture out of bottles, cans and any old rubbish has been done by artist for years, but when done properly it looks great. Is it time that the general public start looking to this as an option rather than taking a trip to a local furniture store? Think of the amount of fun that you could have and the sense of achievement you’ll get when it’s finished. However finishing it may be the problem for many of us, never mind making it attractive of comfortable.

Big Brother changing the shape of classic furniture

If you have been watching Big Brother over the past couple of weeks, you would have noticed the funky cow hide chesterfield sofa in the living room. This is certainly a step away from the classic design we are all used to, but it may turn out to be the next furniture fashion trend. However, you will be expected to pay more for a natural cow hide finish so be prepared if you want one.

This does therefore propose the question, what do you prefer, classic chesterfield sofa or cow hide chesterfield sofa?
